CORK, Ireland – The 63rd Cadet Class Commissioning Ceremony took place in Cork this month, marking a significant milestone in the careers of Ireland’s newest Naval cadets. Among the highlights of the day was the presentation of the Admiral Brown Commemorative Medal to two outstanding newly commissioned officers, Oisín Anderson and Martin McHale.
The special edition medals, crafted with care and precision by Mr. Michael Fields of Foxford Jewellery, were presented on behalf of the Admiral Brown Society. Society members Margaret Reilly and Alan Lonergan travelled from Foxford, Co. Mayo—birthplace of Admiral William Brown and home of the Society—to make the presentation.
The Admiral Brown Society was honoured to be invited by the Irish Navy to participate in the event, continuing a proud tradition of cooperation and mutual respect. “We deeply value this continued association between Foxford and the Irish Navy. It is an honour to be part of this ceremony, recognising the achievements of Ireland’s future naval leaders,” according to the Society.
The connection between the Irish Naval Service and the Admiral Brown Society was further strengthened earlier this year when Lieutenant Pat Doherty was welcomed to Foxford during the Argentine Day celebrations and Admiral Brown Commemoration in June 2025. His presence reinforced the enduring friendship and shared history between Ireland and Argentina, rooted in the legacy of Admiral William Brown, founder of the Argentine Navy.
The Admiral Brown Society extended its sincere thanks to the Irish Navy for their continued support and looks forward to further opportunities to celebrate Admiral Brown’s life and to foster the long-standing ties between Foxford and the Naval Service
