Argentina Day & Admiral Brown Commemoration Foxford Co Mayo June 21st 2025

Sincere thanks to the Foxford community for your incredible support during the recent Argentina Day and Admiral Brown Commemoration. Over 200 Argentines descended on our town and came to celebrate the cultural historical and friendships between our two countries. It was a great occasion and the town and its community came to welcome and extend the hand of welcome to our visitors.

We were honoured to welcome H.E. Ana Cachaza, Argentinian Ambassador to Ireland, her diplomatic team from the Argentinian Embassy in Dublin, and Lieutenant Commander Patrick Doherty of the Irish Navy.

Special thanks to Fr. Padraig who celebrated Mass, Cllr Neil Cruise for his generous support, Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council John O’Hara, Minister Dara Calleary, and Minister Alan Dillon for joining us and director of Services Mayo CoCo Mr Tom Gilligan

Gratitude also to CCÉ Admiral Brown, Foxford RSS & Mark McDonnell and his team, Mayo County Council and Austin Meehan’s team, the Foxford Town Enhancement Scheme led by Marion Ryder, Anthony and Mary Ruane for the beautiful flower planting and wreaths, FSLC’s Tommy and Deirdre, and the Foxford Brass and Reed Band. Thank you to An Garda Siochana for assisting with traffic duties on the day.

Thanks to The Moy Hotel for hosting the lunch, O’Hara’s Bakery for the delicious cakes, Pizza Pod Ballina and Bridie Delahunt for the catering, and to Maria Lynn and Bernadette Ruddy for the singing and music in the church and Tom Doherty and John McHugh and Maria Lynn for the music at the reception in Foxford Leisure Centre. Thanks to Máire Lavin and Maria McNulty for reading and helping with the Offertry Procession. We also thank local photographer Sean Flynn for capturing the day so well.
